LAND PURCHASERS FACT FILE
- The Island of St. Lucia is 27 miles long and 14 miles wide. There are excellent underwater reefs, which are protected by the government’s marine underwater park management team. There are also spectacular mountains, a drive-in volcano and a beautiful potpourri of beaches, and much more besides.
- The acquisition of property by a person other than a citizen requires special permission from St. Lucia’s minister of legal affairs. This permission is usually granted after the identity and the character of the applicant is ascertained. Permanent residence can be applied for after a period of five years of continuous residence in St. Lucia. The advantage of having this status is that your passport is stamped with the permanent residence stamp, which will obviate the need for application for residence permits every three months and the inconvenience of time-consuming procedures at the port of entry after an overseas trip.
- The main countries from which foreigners emigrate to St. Lucia are The United States, The United Kingdom, Germany, Canada and other Caribbean Islands. Most foreigners entering into the Island chose to live on the north or on the west of the Island.
- In addition to citizenship and permanent residence, foreigners may be permitted to take up simple residency for the term of their work permit. Once the work permit is granted, the Immigration Department will stamp the individuals passport. This stamp grants the right to reside in St. Lucia for the duration of the work permit. Dependants of the person holding the work permit will also have a similar stamp placed in their passport, but this stamp will not include their right to work.
